Ugoogle scam - message board

Got the same problem? Leave details of your experience here. All details will be passed to eBay and Paypal.

UPDATE: Here's the 'standard' dispute resolution email from ugoogle. Note that they discourage tracking for any returned parcel. Is this perhaps so they can dispute receipt of the returned article?

"there should be something wrong with the memory. If you are sure that it is really wrong, please send it back to us for checking and leave a note (your name/item number /the matter) to tell us the details. The return address: J Zhang 28-38#, Hongli Youju Shenzhen, Guangdong 518028 China Please don't send it by any express like UPS, FEDEX or DHL ect, please send it by your national post office. We appreciate your understanding. if you can keep the item, we can give you a partial refund of 25AUD. please tell us about your decision. thanks"

Here's my response:

"You are completely aware of the 'problem'. The MP4 players are not as advertised, contain worm viruses, pirated music and you are scamming innocent buyers. I require a 100% refund for both players, and I do not trust that if I return the players to you that you will refund anything."

NOTE: China will not permit imports of Radios (this classification covers the players). DO NOT SEND THESE PLAYERS TO CHINA. Since Ugoogle is not (according to ebay listings) based in China, there is no reason whatever to 'return' the player to a third country.

The virus on uGoogle's dud players is Brontok C -
it not only acts as a mass mailer....
it also attacks all the running applications...
it runs at realtime priority and checks every process for keywords relating to antivirus.
and if it finds a process relating to antivirus, virus removal tools, antispyware, registry cleaner, etc., it just kills them.
the intersting part is that it closes all the doors to manual cleaning of the virus.
ex: task manager
registry editor,
command prompt,
system configuration utility, etc.,
it even works the same in safe mode and safemode with command prompt only. it also closes internet explorer and mozilla firefox if it finds you are in a antivirus providers page.

it makes copy of itself in folders all over the HDD is random basis. it finds a folder creates a copy of it and saves it in the folder with a name of that folder. it has the same icon as folder. hence its hard to differntiate it from a folder and application. only way to differentiate is to right click it and if u see run as... in the pop up menu then delete it. because its the copy of that virus.

it also creates three copies of it in windows folder under the following names:
j4110827.exe
o6110822.exe
_default*.pif

if you have your system restore running then its still harder for you. because u cant stop it.

it also creates a text file : c:\broco bro !!!.txt
when you open this file you see something interesting
some good advices written in language other than english.
and a small display of "BRONTOK" in a window similar to command prompt but with title "command bro".

this is the most interesting virus i have ever seen. i bet that the creater has spent a lot of time coding and analyzing it because it does all this with mere 43KB size.
I ordered one of these players in October. Still not recieved it!!
U FOOL expects me to wait a further 2 months while he "checks with post office".

If you want a refund, report him to pay pal as a fraudulent seller as he advertises posted from Preston UK, but we all know they come from Hong Kong!
You should recieve your money back from them.

Since when was Preston, Lancashire in China? ebay listings are shown as Preston (.co.uk) and Macau (.com.au) - yet all returns are supposed to be sent to China.

I have also had a 1GB mp3 player that sould be a 4gb. Also saying that the item location was in Preston, United Kingdom when it in fact came from Hong Kong marked as a gift! With a value of $15. I paid £45 for mine I must have been mad. Why is ebay and Paypal allowing this to go on?????

Well, that's a mystery that I intend to take up with ebay and paypal. Take a look at the foot of this page at the latest attempt by ugoogle to gag me.

The parcel I received was sent by Denny Chen, Wong Shuk Hing, PO Box 1225, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Hong Kong. I have passed this information to the Australian fraud squad.

I have ordered one of these 4GB mp3 players on 9/12, since then I have read several articles and replies about 'Ugoole' being a scammer, is there anything I can do to:
A) get my money back on paypal, and;
B) stop him/her sending this piece of corrupt junk?
I'm new to ebay (which is probably why I got caught up in a scam so easily) and I would be Greatful for any help as to what the best plan of action is, thankyou in advance. :)

It's not proven that all the players are hacked - they may or may not be. Mailing egoogle is a waste of time, they are expert scammers and they will reassure you and talk about some players 'with faulty memory'. If you follow the reformat instructions (link on this site) you will discover the real memory capacity. You will be offered a partial credit by ugoogle - it's up to you whether you accept it - I have chosen to go through the dispute process. If enough people do, paypal will freeze their account and not allow the money to be transferred out.

ive been looking at the feedback on ebay and it seems clear that not all players are faulty or broken. however those who did leave negative feedback have said that the item only has 1GB when listed as 4GB, the item has not come or there were various other faults. i have just purchased one of these players and am getting more and more worried. if the player has something wrong with it, what shall i do???

The extent of the scam is not known. If this problem had only just surfaced ugoogle could argue that they had a faulty batch of players. However, this is a problem that has been apparent for a long time and still they send out the hacked players. Note, these are not faulty - they are hacked to misrepresent the memory capacity. There's nothing you can do until you have the player - follow the reformat instructions (if you choose to) and then you will discover the truth. The only way to get your money back is to complain to paypal.

Note that in October 2006, he was selling 2GB mp4 players. And all of a sudden, those same players are 4GB. He is a real fraud. Complain to your credit card company, they usually have online fraud protection. After you get your money, send the piece of crap back.

I have one of these pretend 4gb players that is really 960mb. I had to format it to get it to work, it had a virus and skips on the audio tracks. The radio has a tapping sound in the background. Still, people (like I was myself) are being conned into buying them because there is a lot of good feedback. I think this will change once the buyers have had time to use them more. I think a lot of feedback is given before anyone tries them out. Something needs to be done!!

It frankly amazes me that eBay has sat on its hands. Only after you experience the problem and search the Internet do you realise that this is a well known scam. I was told yesterday, that uGoole is also e-britain. Add the sales of both and you get about 25,000 units - and this is a fraction of the tip of the iceberg. The 1GB units are worth about one-third the price of the 4GB units. So assuming a sale price of $100, the scam is netting perhaps $70 a unit. Multipy that by 25,000. The positive feedback is no doubt due to the fact that very few people test the disk capacity before leaving feedback. Many would have been bought, inspected and wrapped. How many kids have been robbed?

hey what if we actively warn other bidders through ebay mail of whats being done to them! i know we would never stop every bidder in time but we would lower there bidding prices
Dec 20, 2006 | Unregistered Commenterchristopher lawess
Hi Chris - actually eBay prevents a lot of mail contact during an active bid. if the bidder has items for sale, then you can contact them about those items. I actually think that the right action is action taken with eBay and Paypal to get these stores closed. I have so far found eBay's response to be automated and disinterested.

I'm in the same boat! I bought 2 4GB players, at different times. At first I thought it was great for the money so I ordered the second! Two days latter the first disk currupted and when I reformatted it was 970 MB - and the battery started fading after 30 mins. I complained - you probably can guess the rest... Foolishly I trusted him and I sent the player back to China on the promise of a refund - 1 month later he still claims it has not arrived. I have started ebay and paypay disputes but the kids will be disapointed now!
