Dear Colleagues, For several weeks in June we visited old and new client friends in Adelaide and Perth, meeting many passionate and talented individuals, experiencing their craft and sharing their vision.  It reminded me of the fact, no matter where you are skills are the same, it is just a matter of magnitude, everyone is important. Aspects of the journey also reinforced my view, if all people were able to regularly experience well written, performed, produced and presented music, their lives would be enriched and the world would be a more peaceful and moderate place. Therefore, in this issue, we briefly overview the evolution, role and benefits of a valuable life-force, and conclude with an updated short form GROVER NOTTING® technology catalogue.

The Evolution, Role and Benefits of Music Thanks to sound, music is possible and thanks to music we have at our disposal a universal language that can penetrate any boundary and engage anyone, anywhere. The origin of the word music derives from the Greek mousike which translates as “art of the Muses”. However, music in its various forms was practiced long before the dawn of Greek civilisation. The first musical performance was most likely executed with percussive implements, followed some time later by the practice of tailoring then blowing into hollow reeds, wood, animal bones and horns. Implements made from bone, horn, reed and wood with holes carved sequentially, have been discovered dating back over 35,000 years, and by their design, indicate an understanding of melody. From these times, archaeological findings and other supporting evidence reveal a steady growth in the sophistication of musical instruments, indicating that music has been a coincident aspect of human evolution. Organised music was certainly sung and performed on percussion, strung and blown instruments in ancient Egypt and surrounding cultures of the time, and probably well before this period. The role, influence and nature of music are usually determined by the resident culture of the day, which will change over the passage of time and be subject to intervening events.   Just as the food and drink we consume nourishes and sustains our body, many feel music is the food that nourishes and sustains our soul. Well written, performed, produced and presented music experienced live or replayed, can be both intellectually and emotionally engaging regardless of genre. Irrespective of an individual’s age, gender, race or creed, all can benefit from the therapeutic, recreational, spiritual, educational and career opportunities and benefits provided by music.   The absolute beginning could centre on the womb, where research indicates a benefit to a developing embryo experiencing or sensing music. Whilst not learned on prenatal matters, this author understands the soothing and calming affect music in the form of a lullaby has in sending a new born to peaceful slumber. Once out of the cradle and in preparation for their formal education many young children will benefit and relate to music in the form of nursery rhymes. While all individuals, regardless of age will benefit from a music education let’s finish this short journey by identifying the fact that music enhances most aspects of our life. A positive impact is realised in language (reading, listening and speaking skills), mathematics, psychomotor skills, creativity, self-esteem, aesthetic considerations, social skills, general academic outcomes, recreational, celebration, inspiration, motivation, therapy, spiritual, commercial and vocational. A faithful companion, music touches the soul, challenges the brain and stimulates the heart, healing, comforting, entertaining, inspiring, connecting, transporting, informing, daring, providing and rewarding.

DVD Ram Video Files from camcorders

Do you have some of the Standard DVD Ram or Mini DVD Ram video discs that were made on a Sony, Hitachi, Panasonic or JVC video handycam? Often these video files are really hard to transfer due to the odd or proprietory formatting that these players used.

These video discs were a relatively short lived product that was sold around the time of Mini DV Tapes and other digital handycams,  The Discs were quite fragile and sometimes the camera was set to the wrong format, This often meant that the only way you could see the footage was to play it back on the camera. 

We can extract most of these files to regular DVD, hard drive or USB for you to then make edited files for birthdays anniversary's etc.

ISC 2017 - massive amount of Aussie bands make finals

International Songwriting Competition (ISC) Congratulates 2016 Aussie Finalists
Big Scary, Gang of Youths, Kate Miller-Heidke, Shane Nicholson, and Kirsty Lee Akers Are Among The 60 Finalists

March 17, 2017, Nashville -- The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) is pleased to announce its 2016 finalists. Now in its 16th year, ISC is undeniably the world’s largest international songwriting competition, with over 16,000 entries coming from 137 countries from all over the world.

Continuing the tradition of Australian artists being recognized by ISC, this years competition has announced that 60 Aussie songs have been named as finalists in the prestigious competition. Once again, Australia is the country with the most finalists, next to the USA. 

Australian finalists represent many different genres of music, from Rock to Pop/Top 40, Country to Americana, Blues to Christian, and many more. Candace Avery, Founder and Director of ISC, says, “Considering that there are only 355 finalists total, this is an impressive number of finalists from one country. That said, I am not surprised, because the caliber of songwriting from Australia is consistently high and always fares well with ISC. I especially look forward each year to hearing the Aussie entries.”

Both professional and amateur songriters from all over the world entered the 2016 competition, and the finalists were carefully selected by an ISC listening committee. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges that includes high-profile executives from 25 record labels as well as esteemed artists such as Tom Waits, Chris Cornell, Ziggy Marley, Lorde, India Arie, Bastille, Joe Bonamassa, Hardwell, Sara Evans, Donovan, Rickie Lee Jones, Ryan Bingham, and many more. Over $150,000 in cash and merchandise will be awarded to 71 winners, including a Grand Prize of $25,000 (US) in cash and over $25,000 in additional prizes.

Winning ISC is a distinction that has propelled many artists to achieve greater success, including obtaining recording, publishing, and licensing deals; better gigs; press and recognition; and much more.
