Custom CD and DVD Designs

Shaped CDs are generally used for promotional purposes, such as CD Business Cards and can be read without incident by the majority of CD-ROM drives (and audio CD players, although custom-shaped CDs tend to contain data). Unlike Mini CDs, which are smaller, but still circular versions of normal CDs, custom CDs and custom dvds can be almost any shape.

Data on the CD or DVD can include a full multimedia Flash or PowerPoint presentation with up to 10 minutes of full-screen video and audio with hyperlinks to your web site. You can add your entire product catalogue, photos of your premises, yourself, staff members, company and staff profiles, and a map of your company’s location. You can also combine your business card with your company brochures and videos, saving on production, packaging and postage costs.

If you want to make a difference in the standard of presentation with your next CD project then you might want to look at Digipack style packaging. CD Digipacks (sometimes called CD EasyPacks) are different than standard CD jewel cases or slimline CD boxes and make a fantastic alternative to the traditional plastic box that has been around since CD audio was launched in 1983.

Clear, Black or White plastic trays are adhered to pre-printed cardsleeves and can have booklets added to the presentation to complete the whole package. 

CD digpacks can house from 1CD album or CD Single to a 10 CD set and can be custom designed to meet your own requirements.  

Most common styles include a 4 printed panel digipack with a clear tray, 4 panel digipacks with an open slot to take an additional booklet and six panel digipacks which have a double fold and more panels that allow for extra printed information to be displayed.

Due to the increased number of production processes and the initial set up work involved they can be dearer in small quantities than standard CD packages, but the overall impact of the digipack gives most products a lift. Larger quantities are very cost effective.

CD digipacks are also suitable for business CD Rom or Catalogue presentations, language courses, educational software programmes or self help product and other types of product were different styles of retail presentation are needed.

NOTE: Shaped CDs can not be used in most slot-loading devices, such as some car CD players. On most tray-loading CD devices there are two 'wells', one sized for a normal CD and a smaller deeper well for shaped CDs. CD devices with an opening lid have no problem with shaped CDs, as the disc sits on the spindle.

Irregularly shaped CDs with an offset centre of mass may cause damaging vibration if played in computer CD/DVD drives, which can operate at a much higher rotational velocity than stand-alone audio CD players.
