Often, distributors require you to use thier services for creative (artwork concepts) and CD production etc. Does this mean that I have to use them? I have no idea whether the prices are competitive, but it seems I have choice.

Hi Gillian, thanks for your question, Sometimes a record label may want to have you portray a particular image or style that fits in with their promotion and marketing plans, However as I mentioned in the article Distribution deals are often different than full record company deals - distribution services are often just that - they will provide you with a service that gets your CD to wholesale or retail outlets for a fee - In those circumstances you have no obligation to use any of their services, so you dont have to compromise your cover design or music content.
